Station Samui

Maybe, you are thinking by now Koh Tao is only for divers with nothing else to do. Well, you are mistaken.

The good thing about divers is, that they spent most of their time in the water. So you could start the day with the obvious and relax on a quiet, empty beach.

If that gets a bit boring you can get active in many ways: water skiing, wake boarding, kayaking, banana boat rides, even sailing lessons. On land you can go trekking, mountain biking or free climbing. There is island style bowling, petanque and mini golf.

Why not charter a real sailing yacht for a customized day tour or rent a longtail boat to go snorkelling in one of the many bays around the island and getting a first glimpse of the spectacular underwater world or visit the neighbouring little island Nangyuan, with its unique triple beach.

Stay in shape at the open air gym, take Thai boxing lessons or let off steam at the paintball jungle games.

Explore the sights and heights on foot. The breathtaking views make it absolutely worth the effort. (see next section)

After all these activities in the hot climate you feel probably exhausted. A traditional Thai massage should not be missed. It will relieve your strained body and revive your spirit. A herbal steam or a visit to the Japanese bath will add to your well-being and cleanse your tired skin.

Why not develop your inner strength and heal body, mind and spirit? There is Tai Chi, Chi Gong and Yoga, Reiki, Foot Refelexology, all practised and taught.

You see, the turtle has a lot to offer for non-divers after all.

Station Samui

Here is a little collection of interesting spots to see.
In Sairee's south end you'll find the before mentioned (page 5) Rama V Rock, right in front of the Fishery Museum.
A golden pagoda can be reached by following the Sairee crossroad uphill and take right turn up at Suksamran Villa; it's a steep hike but rewarded with a fantastic panorama.
Another great panorama you'll have at Two View, one of the highest peaks of Tao, best take a taxi towards Tanote Bay, get off at the sign and walk the rest, it's really worth it.
You can easily return by walking down towards Sairee, passing several small resorts, inviting for a refreshment stop, then it's just a few minutes easy walk to the main road.
Check out Chalok Baan Kao's east end with stunning viewpoints in every direction. From Last Paradise or Happy Daze you see all of Chalok Baan Kao bay, from New Heaven Restaurant it's Thian Og & from John-Suwan Rock you can overlook both bays together. All in all absolutely breathtaking, the sights as well as the steep walking.

Koh Tao points of interest

Like some more? Go to west Chalok, cross the concrete bridge leading to Saan Jao. Take a break at the Viewpoint restaurant with the best angle of the Buddha Rock. Then go uphill and follow a shady path over to a friendly, quiet bay: June Juea. Now the real trekking adventure starts and only  the sportive and healthy ones should proceed.
At the end of the bay a steep path goes uphill into thick jungle. After a while you reach Cape Jeda Gang. From there uphill again, stay on the coast side path until reaching the next bay, Sai Nuan and its beautiful beach. Up again you will reach "Jax Trek" a save bamboo path around the cliff that will lead to Bamboo Huts, proceed and finally arrive at the gorgeous, private Jansom bay and its stunning cottages. Now it is only a 10 min walk through another exclusive resort to reach Mae Haad (and a taxi ride home to the cold shower). This trip should take about 3 hrs, so don't start too late, bring plenty of water & wear a cap. Enjoy!!
